Ken Hughes was simply the best Oracle DBA/Architect I’ve met – and I’ve been working in the industry for over 20 years.

Some of Ken’s accomplishments while working for me at VoiceStream Wireless include:

· Worked collaboratively in establishing Oracle development standards

· Reached out to production DBAs to mend historical fences and caused all DBAs to work together

· Established a process to evaluate the stability of applications and database integrity. He would then recommend modifications. The modifications he suggested were instrumental in causing tremendous improvement in application performance and stability.

· Utilized his evaluation process to determine if applications VoiceStream were considering for purchase would work well. His recommendations caused VoiceStream to avoid poorly architected systems – and he worked with vendors to assist them in improving their systems.

· Established and conducted training classes to instruct VoiceStream DBAs and developers in database theory that improved all of our technical abilities.

Ken was personally responsible for saving VoiceStream Wireless tens of millions of dollars through elimination of crippling downtime and avoidance of purchasing poorly architected systems.

Ken’s technical expertise was matched by his wonderful sense of teamwork.
